3:19:22 I think the “hit piece” on Andrew Huberman was deeply petty and unfair, and clearly stemmed from jealousy. Glad he had a chance to obliquely address it here. The interviewers way of gently raising the topic and allowing him to comment, I think, was very nicely and courteously done. Huge props to her for that. She’s a better journalist (even though not technically a journalist, than many.

This is bloody infuriating from a scientist because people will take her word as gospel on this when it is clearly NOT something that she has looked into in a clinical way or even with a cursory look at the actual data. PLEASE refrain from making these dangerous and irresponsible statements it is ACTIVELY Harmful to people. I hope this will spur you to do some actual looking into this to see just how ignorant and unhelpful these kind of statements are.

I quit alcohol 18 months ago. I was a light drinker for a few years before then drinking just 1-2 drinks one night a week when I went out dancing to a pub. I still go to the pub, and I have no problem with being tempted. I changed my diet at the same time, so quitting was part of a big lifestyle change. I eat mostly raw fruits and vegetables, and no supplements or drugs of any kind. I only drink water, no caffeine either.

Hi, great presentation. I always hear about the protein intake 1.2 or 1.6g/kg but my question always is how do I know how much protein is in the actual portion of chicken, salmon, cheese etc or even the vegan protein that I am eating? and how much of that protein is actually processed and utilized in my body?? So basically if I eat 60gr of chicken breast, or egg, or salmon, or vegan whatever am I eating and processing 60 gr of protein? and if not, how do I calculate the intake? It will be great if you coud clarify that 🙂

I have my doubts about the self-reported numbers of drinks in some of these studies. If you’ve ever been to a British pub and ordered a beer it comes in an imperial pint glass which is about 19 fluid ounces. So a single beer would get a Brit about two drinks by the European definition.

I want to add something to the rewarding behavior that isn't discussed here. There is actually a lot of evidence in psychology that you should not reward kids (or adults) at all or at least reward them sparsely. Studies have shown that even just simple words of praise for behavior can decrease the intrinsic enjoyment of this behavior. So if a kid is learning a language, rather than praising them for the effort or time spend learning, discuss how fun it is to be able to say stuff in a 2nd (or 3rd) language and how they can apply this in the future. Ideally motivation is 100% intrinsic- offering additional extrinsic motivation can go at the expense of intrinsic motivation. The effects of nor additive, rather the one kind replaces the other unfortunately.

Nicotine has been found to be very beneficial for the brains of APOE e4 carriers. I wonder if using mild nicotine patches during drinking could combat alcohol neurotoxicity? I have APOE4 and I have found that I sleep and feel a lot better after a night out if I have used nicotine. I only use it when I drink. With nicotine I sleep like a baby, where as before I could not sleep after night of drinking. It is the weirdest thing. APOE4, alcohol and nicotine interaction needs to be studied more.
